One of my friends got his CEC PR application rejected after 14 months of processing. The reason was he lacked few months of eligible experience to qualify. He is on bridge permit for another 10 months. His employer is ready to do LMIA to support his new application under the express entry. My friend is worried and would like to know if his Bridge Permit will be cancelled if LMIA process has been initiated. Can anyone advise on this please.

Bridging work permit will not be canceled! It was issued upon the AOR. Which means the initial PR application check was gone through. Also LMIA is a totally different stream and application. They are not related!

But mind if I ask you why he applied when he knew he is lacking experience? This might raise some flags. Just so you know...

Thanks for replying.

CIC classified part of his work experience to a different noc code(which was not eligible) and considered only part where he worked in a promoted role. So he lacked few months to qualify.

In the meantime, He got his bridge permit with APR pending mentioned. His PR application is refused now.

As he is working on gathering all the documents once again like fresh ielts, police clearance, medicals, etc, his employer advised him they could do LMIA for him.

He is worried if LMIA process would cancel his Bridge Permit as it has APR pending mentioned and his previous PR application is refused already.

Right. Now that makes more sense.

Again LMIA and BOWP are two different categories, in fact two different physical departments are taking care of each. So rest assured LMIA has nothing to do with his BOWP application. It is still valid and he can keep on working.

You can call the CIC centre and double check. But they are two separate departments. Unless you are worried that his LMIA approval will void his current work permit. In which case it will. But only if it gets approved. Because you can't hold two work permits at a time.

If the latter is your concern, please wait for more seniors to reply to your question.

Best of luck,

Based on my experience any one can have multiple work permits. i was having my closed work permit with my employer at the same time i had open work permit (BOWP)too. if anyone gets LIMA approval that doesn't mean existing work permit cancelled.

Related to the above scenario: My friend's wife was on a visitor visa. She got her visitor record also extended for an year prior to their PR rejection..(8 months remaining). Can she apply for a spouse open work permit now ? Will it cause any problems as their PR application was rejected.

TOTALLY SAME SITUATION FOR ME. CIC only qualify partially of my work experience as NOC.B, but those are less than 12 months.
They refused my application on JULY.2016
I am preparing my new LMIA application for owner operated LMIA to support myself.
