LMIA from within Canada if you are on Open Work Permit

Hello everyone,

I am a Ph.D. student in Canada, my wife has an Open Work Permit. She has more than 3 years of work experience in Canada, but because of her type of work permit, she is not eligible to apply for PR through the provincial nominee program. My question is: can her current employer make an LMIA for her? And can she get her work permit from within Canada if she is on Open Work Permit now? Thank you!

Yes, her employer can certainly apply for an LMIA if they are willing.

Yes, if the LMIA is approved, she can switch to a closed work permit.
