In the Liberal statement, it reads:

Granting immediate permanent residency to new spouses entering Canada, rather than imposing a two-year conditional status that puts spouses – often women – in a position of extreme vulnerability.

Does anyone know if that's just for applications from certain countries? And "new" wives? Can it apply to spouses of Canadian citizens who are celebrating their 7th anniversary next week as well?

Someone in a 7 year marriage would not be subject to conditional PR even under today's rules... so that Liberal promise would be irrelevant to them.

Canadian immigration laws, which ever political party proposed & implemented them, have never imposed special regulations/limitations on country-of-origin/length of marriage under the spousal sponsorship program.

So I very much doubt the Liberal party, or any other, would do so if & when elected.

I suspect that that particular paragraph simply means an intention to cancel the condition 51 on future spousal PRs, I.e. A return to pre 2012/10 regulations. So, without further details, it would apply to all spouses (with the proviso mentioned by Rob above), from all countries, IMO.

Don't forget that "policy" does not become law overnight, even in the event of an election win, & no one knows how far up the policy you quote is on the Liberal agenda.
