Letter of Explanation for Study Permit Extension

Hello everyone,

I would like to know if anyone here who applied for study permit extension included a letter of explanation. I am applying for mine soon and I would like to know if it is a big help or not ( I know it is not mandatory) but wanted to make sure that I will be given my study permit extension successfully.

From the statistics of previous successful applications, it seems like the department relies strongly on Letter of Explanation, even it is just optional.
