Hi folks, this forum has been great so far and ism sure you will be able to help me out with this question too.

I am posting my application today and as I was going through the checklist I realized that I don't have an "original letter" from my wife's employer. Just to fill you in, My wife is a Canadian citizen by birth and we currently live in the UK. So we are applying through outland family class.

I have included photocopies of 12 months of her payslips and also a photocopy of her employment contract. She is hesitant to ask her employer for an original letter as they will ask what it is for. Do you think the pay slips and photocopy of her contract will be ok?

The employment letter is a requirement, since it is an item on the document checklist for the sponsor.

Failure to include that could be a problem.

We were in the exact same position. I am Canadian living in the UK and sponsoring my husband. I too didn't want to let my employer know what I was doing. I simply went to our HR department and said, I'm Canadian, I need to provide a letter with these details for visa purposes. I left it at that. They didn't ask any questions as to why, so I am thinking they assumed it was for my own UK visa. I'm not suggesting she should lie, but it's all in how you word it ;)
 
My husband and I were in the same situation. It is my understanding that employment letters are required only when the Canadian sponsor works in Canada.

My husband has been working in Germany for the past 6 years, and he was also hesitant to ask for this letter from his employer. We didn't include it, and so far we had no problems with that.

He included pay stubs from the last 12 months, employment contract and a letter explaining that he will not ask for an employment letter because he doesn't want to risk being fired (if they find out he intends to move to Canada). He added that if the letter is mandatory, he will provide it later on, upon request.

Like I said before, we had no problems. My husband was approved as a sponsor back in January. This letter is needed to show proof of employment/income (meaning you are not receiving welfare) so sending 12 pay stubs and an employment contract should also be acceptable.

Yes we are in the same situation in that my wife does not want to let her employer know that she is moving back to Canada at this stage.

Avadava, If your husband has been approved as a sponsor without this letter then we will just do the same as you and notify them of this in a cover letter.

I live and work in Thailand for the past 6 years. When we did our application, I don't recall there being a checklist item for employment letter, just proof that you will be moving to Canada with your spouse when the visa is approved. I got my company to give me a yearly salary statement which was included and accepted.
 
I live in the U.S. and also didn't want my employer to know I would be leaving. I included 12 mths of paystubs, a copy of this years tax return and a letter explaining my situation. I was approved as a sponsor 7/7/14.

We don't really have hard evidence that we will be moving when the visa is issued. All I could do for this is provide a letter from my wife's family in Alberta stating that we will be moving when we have said we will. Is this sufficient?

My hubby asked for an employment letter for mortgage purposes. Perfectly acceptable request.

We didn't have a lot of evidence either. We included letters from family and friends, copies of searches for accommodation and job searches. We also mentioned needing to be closer to my 92 year old mother to help care for her.
 
That could be "okay". BUT . . . she is going to have to include with the application a "re-settlement plan" detailing how she/both of you plan to "re-settle" in Canada. CIC must be convinced that you WILL settle in Canada AND that you will be able to support yourselves.
 
Yes, I agree. We did also include a two page letter outlining in detail our plans to return to Canada.
 
Cant you ask them its for an rental agreement ?
 
That's a good idea. I will ask my wife to say that.

I also didn't realise that we needed to submit so much about our plans once we get to Canada. Thanks for this - I will write up a couple of pages that details this.

If it wasn't important, they wouldn't have asked for it on the checklist. That letter does not just apply to sponsors working in Canada. Why risk your application because you deliberately didn't include something? I wish you luck, but I would err on the side of caution.
