Hi all,

So today I was let go due to structural changes in the company I was working for. Absolutely devastated after being there tow years.

My major concern now is am I screwed and have to leave the country? I applied back in June for CEC and was given another 1 year visa BOWP.

I would appreciate any advice on this.

Thanks

No - there's no reason you need to leave the country and this will have no impact on your CEC application. If you have a BOWP, then you can just find another employer.

^You're not screwed; it's actually a transition to perhaps a better scenario.
You don't have to leave until the end-date stamped on your passport.
Apply for EI so you will have cash flows.

Okay needless to say Im feeling a little better. I was worries it meant I could only stay with the company I was with while my application was processed.

And in regards to the EI I never even thought I could get that. I will have to look into it tomorrow for sure!

Again I appreciate the help guys really.

^There are certain conditions (e.g. did your employer deduct EI from your salary; minimum number of hours worked, willingness and ability to find work, etc.).

Just had a quick look at my pay stubs over the past few eyars and yes they have been deduction E.I. So I should be good there. :)
