Legal Name Change of Spouse for ECA for Express Entry Process

Hello Everyone!

I recently initiated my Express entry profile along with my wife.

I have completed my ECA done and got the certificate for me.

As I was starting for completing the ECA for my wife, I am confused if I have to get the ECA certificate on her old surname or on the changed legal name after marriage. The below are the details of her name:

Before marriage - Smith Kareen
After marriage - Aryan Kareen

All her educational certificates are in the name of Smith Kareen and her passport is in the name of Aryan Kareen.

Also her IELTS Score Card has Aryan Kareen on it (As her passport has the same name).


Yet I have not completed her WES application (will be completing after I get a clarity on this), I am struck with this doubt and will be appreciated if someone is going to help me out from this.

You will need to provide a legal document that certifies change of name. This has to be provided with the application to link her former surname with current surname.

Do I need to fill any separate form with WES?

Or can i directly send the legal document along with the transcripts through courier?

What does the name on her WES certification say- that's what counts. Should you state your spouse was known by a different name, there will be a corresponding place holder to upload the 'Legal Name Change doc'- this is nothing but a notarized affidavit, which indicates its the same person.
