Left Canada after 1year of gaining pr status

I got my permanent resident status in November 2001 and left Canada in December 2002. My Canadian husband was expatriated for work. We've been out since except for a brief visit in 2007. I never applied for a PR card and only have the IMM form as proof of PR. My children are both citizens, gaining it through their father, but were born outside Canada. I do not own property in Canada but my savings account is in Canada - Montreal. I intend to return this summer for a visit with the family. Any advice on reentering. I travel on a passport that now needs a visa to enter. I have a valid 10-year US visa.


Any knowledge shared would be useful.

You will need to apply for a PR Travel Document to travel to Canada. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/travel-document/

Since you are living with your Canadian citizen spouse, you are still considered in compliance with the residency obligation even though you haven't been living in Canada. When applying for the PR TD, make sure you submit proof of your marriage, and that you have been living together all this time.

You need to be in Canada to apply for a new card. OP is out of country.
