Hi,

I would be grateful for your advice. I have been leaving/working outside of Canada with my spouse who is now a Canadian citizen and two children (one borne outside, one inside Canada). I have got a job offer in Canada and we all want to return to Canada.
Last time I went to Canada was less than a year ago and I now my PR is just few month valid. I was planning to return to Canada first to get things ready ( find a residential place, …) for my family to join to later and wait for 2 years, then apply to renew my PR.
1. If I return first and say I have been out of Canada for 11 months (my PR Card is still valid for couple of months), would they send me for further questioning automatically?
2. Would they ask for any proof that I have been out of Canada with a Canadian Citizen?
3. If Yes, what proof should I have with me?
4. Would they automatically refer me for breach of RO to the judge to provide the proof?
Last time I visited I did not mention my long absence and as ‘a resident with a short absence’ I got in quickly using the self check-in Machines.

5. Would it make it make easier if we all return together?
Sorry for asking to many questions but I do not want to do something now which might cause any problem in the future.
Thanks for your advice.

Try to return before the expiry of your PR Card. I don't think you will face any trouble at the airport but the CBSA could ask briefly about your travel history, which is usual.

Why would you keep your family outside of Canada for 2 years to renew your PR first? If your spouse is a citizen, as you said, and one child born in Canada, the other, if born after your spouse acquired citizenship should also be Canadian citizen. They don't have to wait outside of Canada for anything ...

THanks Wilson and Allura71.
My family are going to join me after few weeks ( just to give me a chance to find a place and get the essentials), but I thought I should wait for two years to fulfil the RO and then apply to renew my PR card.

Oh yes, absolutely wait until you fulfill the RO to renew your card. You MUST do that otherwise you could cause yourself problems. I must've misunderstood what you were saying because I thought your family was going to wait until you did that to come to Canada.

Best of luck to you!
