Hello!

My situation: I am currently on a closed work permit and am working for a service based organization. My husband and I have put in an application for PR, have passed the medical test and the background check is in progress (according to the status on the CIC website). I am the Primary applicant.

Problem: The project I was working on suddenly closed down. I am still employed with my organization but would have to return back to my home country if a suitable position is not found in Canada.

Questions:
1. Can I quit my current job and still live in Canada till I get my PR?
2. If I do go back to my home country, will my PR application still be processed? (I checked the CIC website and it says "If you are unable to return to Canada, we could determine that you abandoned your application. In that case, we will not process it.")

Thanks in advance!

Hi, I am exactly in the same situation... What happened in your case? Can someone throw light on this issue?

Please read the following:

The main sticking point is that you need to be able to return back to Canada when you are require while your PR application is in process. For example, if your are from a visa-exempt country, then you are fine, but if not then you will be in trouble and your application may be cancelled because you may not be allowed to enter back into Canada.

I have been reading about this myself and hear different opinions from people in the forum. I think anyone who leaves while their PR is not finalized are at risk of cancelling their application.

I am under the same situation. I called up CIC, they said that You can apply for bridging open work permit. We can wait in our home country for PR or we can wait in Canada. Its not necessary to be in Canada. Just update the CIC with your new address.

I have not found an straight answer from a reliable source to indicate that there are 0 risks to our PR applications if we leave Canada. Some say it is OK to leave, some say it is not. CIC gives a vague answer on what their policy is with regards to this situation. I just wanted to share with everybody my findings so people are aware about the risks and uncertainties.

Okay, I called CIC and they said Okay to leave Canada. Its not mandatory to stay in Canada but it is more good if you can stay in Canada.
But for sure just because you left Canada would not pose any risk to your profile. Your case gets transfer to nearest VO in your area. I have called CIC twice and had check with them.

I appreciate you sharing this information with us. I hope they stand by what they say. I wish the would update their website with an straight answer so so many of us would not repeatedly ask about the same topic.

Thanks, I know there are many uncertainties with CIC, but nothing is in our hand and we have to leave Canada, so just with hope we can leave. In my circumstances I have to leave Canada and I have checked twice with CIC.
