Hi all,

So, from gurleegurl's thread on IMM0008 and IMM5490, the question has come up about leaving blanks. I think this warrants a separate thread to clear this up.

For IMM5490, where it states to "Go to question 24" (IMM5490), I did what it said. I did not, however, write NA for questions 20-23. Due to the fact that I have already clearly answered that we are married, there is no need to write NA in the section for Common-law or Conjugal partner (Q20-23), correct? Why would the form state to skip ahead? Obviously, if you skip ahead, you are not in a common-law or conjugal relationship, as evidenced by submitting you are married.

For IMM0008, we left the fax number blank. Since you can't write letters or * in that section (Q5), we just left it blank. Again, I think it is obvious that we don't have a fax number...

For everything else we filled in the required information without leaving blanks....only because we had information to fill...otherwise for questions that are not applicable, we simply wrote "Not Applicable".

I know that others stress the importance of never leaving blanks, which I understand...to a point...but for certain things as mentioned above, the VO will surely understand and not reject and send the entire app back...I honestly cannot see them being that rigid...especially if the form (their form) says to "Go to question 24"...

Thoughts?

We left them blank, didn't write N/A or anything like that, it didn't affect our application.

That's what I thought...I could see them sending the app back if you left information that must be provided (e.g. name, birth date, cohabitation period if you answered yes to living together, etc..).

Things such as the fax number or when it states to "Go to question 24"...it's implied you do not need to fill Q20-23...and I think that's the whole point of putting that on the form...i.e. they won't expect you to write NA for those...

FS

They won't send the app back. They'll just ask you to redo anything and mail it in. I put NA on everything but I'm sure not doing so when you chose another option is fine.

I put n/a in every single field that I didn't have an answer/response for. Wasn't taking any chances and it took maybe 5 minutes to take care of all of them.

So, some put "NA" for everything, while others do not. The question is: What is the definitive answer? CharlieD10 did what I did and she had no issues. Has anyone actually had trouble (spousal sponsorship) due to leaving a few blanks?

FS

I don't know if there IS any definitive answer... The only consistent thing about CIC is their inconsistency. 8)

The only parts I put blanks was if it was a form that didn't apply to me like the useq of representative form. I put a big N/A on the top and several N/A's in some of the answer spots and the rest blanks. I think you did it right if you didn't have a divorce for example, then I don't see why you would have to put n/a for every question about the person you divorced with.
