I'm filling out the Generic Application Form for Canada, and I'm residing in BC for 1 year.

There is a question asking "Date and Place of Your Last entry to Canada", I just wonder if I should put the date and port after a day trip to USA? will it be too trivial?

Thanks a lot!

It should be the very last place and time you came into Canada.

Even if it is from a day trip to the States, put that in there. For example, mine was at the Peace Bridge, Fort Erie ON.

Last time you entered Canada. USA is out side Canada :p. It doesn't matter even if you crossed border for 10 minutes. So if last time you went to States and enter back in Canada consider that date as last entry to Canada. :)
