LANDED..........
17-07-2010
Okay so hopefully i'll have my visa in hand tomorrow/saturday (Its being FED-EXed from england as we speak) So i was wondering about the landing process.
1. What do i need? Just passport/visa/goods to follow?
2. Is it better to have just me and the hubby, or will it be fine if the in laws come to as they know the city better than me and my hubby doesnt drive!
3. I applied outland but am in Calgary atm on a visitor record(?), what are my options for landing? Which are the most benificial?
4. How long until i can work?
5. What do i do about healthcare/dentists etc now? Does that kcik in automatically or do i need to apply somewhere?
6. (And finally!) I' ve been told that as i have a Full UK drivers licence for over two years, i can just convert this to an alberta licence with no testing, is this true? When i was in the driving registry the other day they did not recognise my licence as an english one (i guess its a new one or something?) and in fact accused me of having a fake licence, is this going to be a problem?

Thank you for all the help everyones given me! (Big sigh of relief that its almost 'over')

We're near Calgary and had planned on driving down to Coutts or Carway to 'flagpole'.

I believe you can take your COPR to a service Canada office and apply for a SIN# right away. They'll give you a number right away but the actual card won't arrive for a couple weeks.

You can apply for the AHCIP at a registry office, according to their website: http://www.health.alberta.ca/AHCIP/Q-who-is-eligible.html

Thank you! :) I heard somewhere that flagpoling is the easier option but i suspect they're both as time consuming as each other! lol

Oh also, we're hoping to land on a sunday now we knwo when the passport will get here, but my husband is convinced this will be a problem whereas ive told him repeatedly borders dont close for weekends....it shouldn't be a problem right? lol
Any answers to the previous questions much appreciated guys..
