Hi,

So I hear that once you get your request for Passport you can go to Detroit and get PR that day. What I wonder is if you have applied with a spouse can just one of you go to collect it? Two issues, I don't want to take time off work for it, so I'd rather just send her on her own. And if I don't get it until later in the year she'll be on a 4 month cycling trip around Europe so I'd have to go alone for it.

Anyone know?

Thanks

You can land separately, but the primary applicant must land first. Dependants can only land after that.

Thanks for the info. Does this also include going to the office in Detroit to show passports? I'm British and she's an American, so I think I'm allowed to just take a photo copy of her passport with me as we're both from visa exempt countries. Is that right?

I don't know about that, but for visa exempt citizens, our PPR doesn't involve the physical passport. You email a copy of your passport to the VO. Your passport doesn't leave your hands.

I know that's the preferred way to do it, but I read on here you can go to the visa office in Detroit and avoid the 1-2 month wait, so hoping I can just take a photocopy.

I went to look at Detroit's page to see if they accepted walk-ups. They're closed.

Ooft, what a bugger. It says they closed January 29th. So now there is no way to avoid the 1-2 month wait from passport request to being able to land?

My other half is at university here and paying international fees. We'd hoped to have PR at some point before she finished so as to save a significant amount of money. Never know the PR process would take 3 years :( so it looks like she'll get the PR just after the course finishes.
