Hi all. I will be landing in a few weeks and my destination is Calgary, but I have a connecting flight with 2:50 hours layover in Halifax. As I came to understand that's where I'll be dealing with immigration. Does anyone know or have went through the process in Halifax and can tell me the amount of time it takes to do all the paperwork and if my 2:50 connection layover will be enough? And what is the traffic to be expected, because it's a fairly small airport, somehow I don't think there will be a huge line...? I would really hate to miss my flight and be stuck in the airport.

Landing itself is fairly quick :) You show immigration your CoPR, they will ask you two or three very basic questions (have you committed any crimes, has your family status changed, things like that)...they will confirm your mailing address (for the PR card) and then stamp/sign your CoPR and you will be on your way :) 2:50 will be more than enough time.

The only thing that may affect the layover time is the actual size of the customs lineup, which no one can really adequately predict :) In any event, you will almost certainly have enough time.

It should be ok but like Duberblue said it really depends on if there are other people in front of you in line. Some people on here have had to wait for 3+ hours but that is usually at a bad land crossing.

Thanks a lot for the info! I will mention to the IO that I have a connecting flight coming soon maybe they will be willing to put me ahead of the line if there will be one :)

like I pointed before, I don't think Halifax would be too bad. I would be worried if it were Toronto. Took me 45 mins for the bags to come couple of times and there's lot more people. Also you can call WestJet or Air Canada from the baggage claim in case you are running late and let them know you are there.

Yeah, I'm just sort of worried cause I totally thought that I will deal with all of the immigration steps in Calgary, but now things just got a little messed up. I'm arriving from Frankfurt at around 7pm so hope there won't be many people by that time, or not many landing as new immigrants on the same plane.

I had 1:40 (Calgary Airport) and managed to reach my plane 10 mins before the takeoff. 2:50 should be enough :) (Halifax Airport is probably smaller which is good)
