Requesting gurus and experts to help....

We (wife, kid and I) got our meds done in Delhi in Oct 2009, and after that got back the visa stamped passport in Nov 2009. This visa is valid till Oct 2010 (one year after meds). Meanwhile, I came to U.S. in Jan 2010 for a one year masters program. This program completes in Jan 2011.

I have been given uptill Oct 2010 to complete the landing process. What complicates things is that since my masters program is compressed into one year, I really do not have more than a week to complete landing process before october. However, I plan to move to Canada in January 2011 after completing my studies.

Can anyone advise on what I can expect while landing. I will be landing by car from Niagara or Cornwall border and then stay there for 3-4 days only, apply for SIN and leave back by car. I have some questions and seek you guys' help...

Will border police try to understand the problem that I cannot stay beyond one week during this visit, however will be back few months later, and process the PR (by taking the address of a close relative for mailing the PR card).

If they do not process the PR, then can they at least agree to extend the timeframe (to after Jan 2011) by which I can re-enter and try for PR card again..Does border police have authority to do that..

Is there any way I can get the timeline to land extended...

What best way to handle this process ...any experiences and dos and donts will be great to know..

Thanks!

Hi Delhiboy,

You can enter Canada and come back after 3-4 days and border police will not ask you anything. Recently one other applicant did the same he drove to Canada did his entry and then after 1 or 2 days he left back to US. And once you done this then you can come back to Canada anytime later in 2011 the deadline of October 2010 will be finished because you have done your first landing. You can give your friends details for PR but its upto. The border police wont say anything about your short stay you can do it as many other people do. Once you entered in Canada before October 2010 you wont need any extension.

Cheers
