Hello,

Can anyone who has recently sponsored their spouse (outland application) and who has landed already please share their experience? My spouse plans to land at Toronto's PIA airport and would appreciate any help/advise on the procedure.

Thanks!

Basically your spouse will just be sure to have passport with visa attached, and COPR document in hand when they land at the airport. When they get to Customs, they'll tell the officer they are entering Canada to "Land" and show their passport. The officer will send them in to Immigration; an officer there will process the paperwork. There are a couple of questions, verifying the Canada address to send the PR card to, signing the COPR and that's about it. PR card will be mailed later.

The other thing is that the landing immigrant, if bringing any belongings into Canada (or shipping or bringing any later) needs to have filled out a personal inventory form for those items. If there are items at landing and more to follow, there needs to be two separate lists. The lists are given to customs officers after the landing so that all items included can be imported into Canada without having to pay duty.

Does the sponsor also present a “goods to follow” list? I will be accompanying my PR wife, and sometime later I will be bringing some stuff I have stored in Costa Rica back to Canada.

To clarify, we will be staying in Canada for only a few months at the first landing, then returning to China to finalize details there. So neither of us will be officially residing in Canada the first time.

So … when do I present a “goods to follow” list?

What if you have commercial goods? Anyway to bring them and save on taxes while keeping everything legal?
