Hey I have a question. if anyone who have experience or can answer please help. Im sponsoring my wife from Vietnam. She has limited english. My question is that if she travels to Vancouver alone, will there be anyone to assist her when she arrives? Interpreter? I will be outside waiting for her. Will I be allowed inside to assist her with paperwork,questions..etc? Anyone have experience from sponsoring someone from Vietnam? Does IOM have any service they can provide? If so, how does their service work? Thankyou.

Yes, there are interpreters in the Vancouver International Airport.

Last time, my father in law from China arrived Vancouver. He speaks limited English. He was instructed to meet an interpreter. The interpreter asked him some questions such his purpose of visit and etc and help him to fill out the declaration form. I think your wife would be just fine.

However, you are not allowed to go inside to assist her unless you work there.

I'm sure she can get help, but if you want to help, you can prepare a letter with all the information she needs - she would like to land as a PR, she is married, here is her marriage certificate, her address in Canada will be xxxx, and you're standing outside in the arrival area to assist by phone if needed, with your phone number. So in case there is nobody around, the border officer will have all the necessary info for a landing.
Good luck!

I have very often seen individuals in YVR walking through the customs line, holding signs that say "New Immigrants" and speaking to people. I think that if a plane lands with a new immigrant somehow it's flagged and they are expecting them.

I will be coming back with my wife. Vancouver will be her landing destination. Will I be able to go with her for her landing process or do I just go through the returning Canadian side?

Well, since couples do go through the regular counter together I don't see why not? It's kind of to the right of all the counters, I assume they have some rooms there.

I don't recall those. Just remember going through the auto process before the baggage carousel.

Yes, you can go with her in doing the landing formality.
