Dear All,

I am landing in Canada on the 1st of June. My question is -

1) The proof of funds I am carrying are in the form of fixed deposits I have in my Indian bank, would that be ok? I do not want to liquidate the fixed deposit as I am just doing my landing now and will come back in 2017 permanently.

2)I also have my credit cards and about 2000 can dollars in the bank... I do not want to carry much cash with me.

Awaiting your reply.

Hi friends, i need help with my Nova Scotia landing.

1. My landing city per COPR is Halifax. While checking for connectivity with Halifax, most of the flights to Halifax are going through Toronto. I believe coming to Halifax via Toronto should not be an issue?

2. Also there is one flight from Philadelphia, US which lands to Halifax. I too have that as an option which will allow me to land to Halifax directly. I Just want to make sure that Halifax Airport will provide all the immigration services.

3. I am currently based in US. I can even perform landing by road. Do you suggest i should land Canada via road. Is it advisable to do road landing, keeping in mind that Halifax is my destination city.

Thanks

YOu can land anywhere in canada but not Quebec.

It a 16 hours drive from Philadelphia to Halifax. If you wanna do that you can. I guess you don't even have to go to Halifax unless & untill you need to process your PR & medical card in NS.

YOu should make a DD in local Currency. No need to make in CAD$. Bank account may not be sufficient.

Credit card is more than enough for almost every transaction in Canada from barber shop to Taxi.

Take Rogers Pay As GO which cost $10 per month with having incoming $3 / min ..This is the cheapest. Take directlly from Rogers. Resellers have no idea about Pay as you GO plans.

Hi All,

I am landing on 24th June 2016, at Toronto.

This will be a short landing, due to my professional obligations I cant leave my job now. Will go to canada by Jan-feb'17 permanently.

I have few queries, would be glad if anyone could guide me on these:

1. Proof of Funds -
I will be carrying approx 1000 CAD (which should be sufficient for 14 day short landing) in cash and rest as a document i.e cheque, Banker's draft etc. I will not be en-cashing the money in cheque or the draft. Would like to know in which form/document should I carry the money so that I don't lose the money upon expiry of that document.

2. Mobile Number -
Can i buy a Canadian SIM card and carry it with me outside Canada for a period of 6-7 months? I want to keep the number active, which plan should I go for? and what is the cost associated with it?

3. Goods to Follow List -
Currently, I don't have any jewelry on/with me. So I will not be able to declare the photographs of the articles that I might have when I come back again in Jan'17. So will I have to pay duty for those articles then?

4. SIN
Even if I am not residing in Canada but have a PR, do I have to file income tax returns? If yes, whats the easiest way to do it.?

Thanks in anticipation

will it also work when I am outside canada?
Yes, of course! I'm using one from India since last few months after somebody on the forum suggested it earlier. As long as you have Wi-Fi / 3G / 4G available you are good to go. Since your entire purpose is having a Canadian number for a few months when you would be out of Canada, this would do the job perfectly.

Thansk a lot for your response, Alok and other members of this forum! I have few more queries as below:

(1) If I am going to return to U.S.A within 4 days of my landing at Vancouver, can I 'tick' the settler box on Form B4 and B4A? I am having this confusion because the details under settler clearly asks me to verify that "I am entering Canada eith the intention of establishing, for the first time,a permanent resident for a period in excess of 12 months and I arrived in Canada on May 18,2016" But in reality, I am not going to stay for 12 months,I am going to RETURN within 4 days hence I have this confusion.

(2) The expiry date on my COPR is clearly menioned as July 15,2016 but you said that COPR never expires so I am bit confused, please advise. Probably there is something I am unaware of so would appreciate if you can provide me more info.

(3) How much time will it normally takes from the moment my PRTD application is submitted, approved and returned back to my address in U.S.A?
1. Yes, you will tick the settler box. There is no concept of short landing. You are landing here to establish your permanent residence. Neither will immigration ask, nor you need to tell them about how many days you are going to be here.
2. That's the expiry date for 1st landing. If you do not land and validate your PR by then, you lose your PR. However, COPR is a very important document and you should always keep it safe. This is like a certificate of your being a PR. It will also be required if and when you plan to become a citizen.
3. It can take 2-3 weeks, based on which Visa office you apply.

1. No. Fixed deposits are not acceptable. CIC asks you to have funds so that you can support your life while you search for work and a place to settle here. Fixed deposits do not serve this purpose.
2. Credit cards are not POF funds either. 2000 CAD in bank is. It's okay if you do not want to carry cash. If you have international credit and debit cards, you will be use them to pay for your purchases here.

A quick question:

I found a permanent resident application form. I will be landing with my family for first time in sha allah in June. Do I need to fill up the form beforehand? Or will the Immigration Officer help me fill out the forms there?

Anyone who has recently landed, please share experience.

Regards,
Two things should happen at border to kickstart your 1st PR application

1) COPR is stamped and signed by CBSA officer
2) You provide Canadian address to CBSA officer

There is no form to fill and there is no fee for newly landed immigrants

Source 1 : Personal Experience
Source 2 : I am a new permanent resident of Canada. Do I need to apply for a permanent resident card?

Hello everyone.

I am a December 2014 applicant and landed on May 21. Landed safely, everything went smoothly. Thank you all the canadavisa members for your help and support.

As I landed on Saturday, it was along weekend (victoria day on Monday), most of the immigration counters were closed so a long queue, but it took 1.5 hours to complete all the process. Canadians are very friendly and nice people. Don't be afraid to talk to them and ask for any guidance you may require at the airport.

Good Luck with your applications!

Hi Friends !

I'm landing in Toronto in first week of July. Need help for short term accommodation for family of 2 + 2 kids.
I will recommend to use Air BnB to book something, https://www.airbnb.ca/s/Toronto.
The other option can be lookinf for a space in motel like studio6. That is neither convinient nor economical, specially when you're traveling with kids

Hi,

I have a quick question.

I got my PR application approved and got my COPR. I have Ontario PNP and currently living in Montreal-Quebec.

How I will proceed for my Landing as on my COPR the landing city and Province is Ottawa- Ontario.

I got a lease for house from Cornwall-Ontario which will start from July 15th and I will move there at that time.

Can I do landing now by showing my Cornwall address or wait for 15th July. Will I go to border or do it from Ottawa immigration office.

Need help please suggest.

Thanks
