Hi,

me and my family landed for the first time in Canada in Jan 2015, and we left Canada in April 2015, I'm moving permanently in June 2016

in my first landed I prepared list of goods to follow , but the officer in the airport told me they are not accepting to add money to the list,

can some one help me with the below questions

I need to take my savings to Canada, what is the best way to transfer from UAE - Dubai? how much maximum cash I can take with my and my family?
we are 4, two adults and two kids ( 1 and 3 years old ) Can we take 40000 CAD with us as a cash ( 10000 CAD per person ).is it ok?
if we take more than that amount, do we have to pay taxes or any thing in the airport?
I don't want to transfer the money to my account in Canada ( RBC ) as I heard if I have some money in the bank I might not get loans ( student loan for studying ) is that correct,
what about gold , my wife has some gold and ( small pieces ) are they going to ask about them,

Thanks and regards,

Mustafa

Hello Mustafa,

In theory, you can take with you as much money as you want. You just need to declare it, among other reasons, for money laundering regulations. You will be asked for proof of origin of the funds and as long as you can provide it, the immigration officer shouldn't have a problem with it. You can also decide not to disclose it, but if you plan to deposit this amount at any bank, they will ask for the same proof.

A different reason is practicality. Carrying that much cash anywhere would make me completely nervous.

If you are a family of 4 and you plan to take a student loan right away, the money in your account can only help you. I doubt anyone would get a loan with a short or nonexistent banking history and no collateral.

You should also declare your jewellery. Declaration of possessions serves also as a protection measure :)

Hope to have answered your questions.

Cheers,

Serge

If you are a new permanent resident, you will automatically receive your new card by mail, when you first arrive in Canada, as part of the immigration process. You do not need to apply for a PR card.

There is no specific format. Use Form B4/B4A as guidance.

You can either print it out or take photographs. Both are accepted. Just make sure item is clearly visible

Thanks dear :)

Hi,

1) Importer can be a Principal applicant's name, or each individual applicant's name.
2) Importer's address must be a Canadian Address.

The following link is the correct one. Use Right-Click button and select "Save As" option.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM0008ENU_2D.pdf

Do NOT view it in Chrome's built-in PDF viewer. This form can only be opened within Acrobat Reader (preferably 8.1 and higher) due to validation checks.
hi, can you please tell me when and where this IMM008 form is required? Thanks.

You can batch them generally. Yes, put estimated value of each item and make a total in the end (in CAD)
Two (2) copies of a detailed list of all the personal or household items you are bringing with you
Two (2) copies of a list of items that are arriving later and their money value
