Yes it still works that way till now. Hearing that they want to put a stop to it.

Regards,
Thanks for your reply rizmayo. Very confusing, I would suppose many applicants don't know anyone in Canada, how are they supposed to give an address to get their PR card?

They would prefer to get an address where you will be staying when the PR card arrives so it ends up securely in your hands instead of a 3rd party. However, it must be a Canadian address.

If you are not planning on staying in Canada long enough to receive your PR card after your landing, you could leave without it and arrange for it on your next trip. If you are not visa exempt to Canada, this means you would need a PR travel document in order to return and that can take a while depending the embassy. If you are back in Canada within 6 months of your landing, you would simply give an address and they would still send you your PR card. If it's more than 6 months, you would have to fill out a form, get new photos and pay $50 and it would be treated more like a renewal and take a bit longer.

No, only Canadian bank statements can be shown as proof of funds. They have been know to accept bank statements from international banks (in other countries) like HSBC in the past, but don't risk this.

Thank u very much for the informative reply.
Question no.3)
why i want to take 1/3 as t.c and 1/3 as dd is because i think taking all.the money as currency may not be safer-am i correct?
also, is there any legal issue in taking cad$ 27000 in currency form?
What I meant to say was take some cash and rest in DD, why do you want to take TC as well?

You are right taking C$27,000 in cash only is not safe at all and you are left with nothing if it gets stolen.

There is no legal issue, just make sure you mark "yes" for bring more then C$10,000 in the declaration card (http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/forms-formulaires/e311-eng.pdf) and fill out form E677 (http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/forms-formulaires/e677.pdf) in advance to save time at customs (I forgot this in my home country and it took the CBSA officer 30 mins to fill this  ).

Thank you Leon for your reply. My family is going to stay in Canada, but we are staying in short term housing arrangements until we find a suitable place to rent. I cannot give the short term housing address and I don't know where we will finally rent. Again, this must be the situation for many many applicants. Not everyone has a friend, or family there... what do they want us to do?

Thank you for your response,
Cam

Hello Folks:

Question about buying a car in Canada after landing. It seems you require insurance before you buy a car, but how can you get insurance when you don't know what kind of car you will buy??

Confused,
Cam :p

No, you buy insurance after you own/lease a car. Usually at the time you get your new car, the dealership will arrange an auto plan broker to assist you getting the insurance and vehicle plate.

Thank you Steaky! 8)

One more question for anyone who can help. ;D

In the PR applications I am filling up, it says we need 2 pictures. Should we go out and take two pictures from each family member again, or they already have the pictures from the time we submitted applications??

Thank you,
Cam

Did you not received your COPR? If you have received your COPR, you don't need to fill up the PR applications again.

I have been waiting nearly 2 months for my COPR steaky, I believe it is lost. I have to wait patiently they have told me... god knows when they will send me another.

Anyway, I thought even with the COPR you still had to fill in and submit the PR applications... I read Qorax's initial post saying this... but I see he has corrected himself later. Good to know we do not have to fill them up again.

Thanks for your help!

probably that was valid a few years ago, its certainly not required to fill in PR applications anymore for newly landing immigrants.
