LANDED..........
03-04-2017
So here's a premature question but one I need to consider as I'll be booking flights in the near future.

Once my COPR is granted and in my hands, I will obviously be flying to Canada. My end point right now is open but there's a strong possibility it may be Ottawa. No direct flights to Ottawa from the UK, so I'd fly to Toronto and then get on a transfer to Ottawa.

My question is will I have to land at Toronto and therefore make sure I have enough time between connecting flights, or can I delay it until I and in Ottawa?

Thanks!

You always do official PR landing at the first Canadian city you get to.

And connection flight could be tricky, if short layover or big queue at immigration and you will miss your connection flight. And I quest that Toronto is the busiest!!!
For me I lived in Saguenay near Quebec City but I'll make my wife land in Montreal and I'll drive to Montreal airport to pick her up then we'll enjoy the city for fews days :)

is there a way i could just say to the border in toronto that I'm visiting and then when i get to ottawa just do the landing there?

All flights im looking at involve a 1.5 hour layover or get to Ottawa the next day

No you must land at the first city, this is not negotiable.

The second flight will be a domestic flight so there will be no immigration to go through in Ottawa, so doing PR landing is not possible.

1.5 hour layover may be more than enough, it just depends how busy it happens to be at that time.

As said above, no, you cannot delay the landing until Ottawa. However, you could delay the landing and flagpole at the border later on.

thanks guys. i wont have a car when i get there so doing it by crossing the border is a bit of a pain. can always just spend the night in toronto. have friends there. I'd just be worried missing the connecting flight cos even at YVR i've had to wait 3 hours for immigration to clear my work permits before.
