Hi there, my parents just received a notice that their COPR is ready. Now, they are planning to have a visit in a month or so for 3 weeks and my question that may sound like a weird one is if they MUST enter Canada with full landing process or they still can enter the country as tourists with ETA and complete the landing on their next entry before the expiration date of COPR. Please share if you had any similar experience. I guess not many could have had this situation but who knows.. :-) Thanks

Why not just land? There's no downside to completing the landing..

It is technically possible to do what you're describing, as long as the ETA is valid. I'm not sure if their current ETA has been cancelled and a new one (one that says they are landing as PR) issued instead. In that case, they would have to ask CBSA to let them in as visitors. I would still carry the CoPRs though, just in case CBSA refuses and insists on processing their PR.

You do not HAVE to land until you want to. Just make sure they do before tge CoPR expiry date.

There are some reasons for thinking to not complete the landing right now and definitely if they will come for the visit they will have their copr with them. I am thinking the same way you do about COPR/ETA relationships and trying to dig up some info

Why not just complete a soft landing and get it done given even if they return home the only obligation they have to meet would be the residency obligation and on the landing goods to follow..

Having been successful to in effect win the lottery of getting a parents PR its just seems a strange decsion to many people to not complete the process as soon as possible given anything can happen in life between the time they leave as visitors and plan to come back even to the extent they may miss the COPR validity. and regret the decision to not soft land as most people would do..

Just persuade them to soft land and then they have near 3 years to complete their move and still meet the residency obligation but at least it will all be done and you can can courier their PR cards to them for when they return to take up residence

They can enter as visitors and land on their next entry.
