Landed Immigrant status to permanent residents card question

Hello
I have a simple question
I have had landed status since before 2000 and just found out about the "permanent residents card requirement " now for travelling outside of canada, as I have not travelled before
How do I get this and what will it cost me, and what will I need to do and how long will this one take
I am a bit lost on procedure and worried about my landed papers not being accepted if I travel to see a sick family member. Will it take long to get a card
Also money is quite limited right now.
