Hello, my question is very similar. I have study permit for university in Toronto. I want to land in Montreal spend two nights in my friends house and then go to Toronto by flight. The reasons I want to say to the officer are firstly visiting my friend and also because tickets to Montreal were cheaper. My program starts at 6 Sep and My flight to Montreal is at 28 Aug. Will it be Ok?

should not be an issue. Not sure how it can be cheaper buying an airline ticket from Montreal to Toronto separately though.
