I just landed via Rainbow bridge yesterday. By the time I finished processing the only information the officer gave me was to visit a local Services Canada office and get my address information updated. I searched around the forum a bit, but could use some clarification from other members on here.

1. Is the PR card processed and mailed automatically, or do I need to get the ball rolling by submitting any additional paperwork?

2. How should I go about changing my mailing addresses for both U.S. and Canada? Can this be accomplished simply by visiting a local Services Canada office?

3. How do I obtain a SIN? Local Services Canada office as well?

4. Can I immediately begin applying for employment, or should I wait to receive my PR card and SIN first?

I appreciate any help greatly, and look forward to hearing back from the community.

Cheers,
LK

1. Is the PR card processed and mailed automatically, or do I need to get the ball rolling by submitting any additional paperwork? The pr will be mailed to the address you gave when you landed....currently there is a 58 day waiting period.

2. How should I go about changing my mailing addresses for both U.S. and Canada? Can this be accomplished simply by visiting a local Services Canada office?Mailing address needs to be changed via Canada Post and/or the US counterpart.

3. How do I obtain a SIN? Local Services Canada office as well?Yes go to a local Service Canada Centre...bring your passport with the white landing paper in it and they will process the application for your SIN card right away...they will give you apaper with this number and as soon as you have this number you are legal to work in Canada. My husband had his actually card in one week.

4. Can I immediately begin applying for employment, or should I wait to receive my PR card and SIN first? Yo do not need to wait for your PR to begin work but you must have your SIN number.

I appreciate any help greatly, and look forward to hearing back from the community.

Cheers,
LK

Thank you very much for your response! Hopefully this info will be of use for other folks on here.

Let me focus on this one:

1. Is the PR card processed and mailed automatically, or do I need to get the ball rolling by submitting any additional paperwork?

Did you provide a Canadian mailing address to the officer when you landed? If so, then the PR would be mailed to you at this address in about 2 month's time. If not, you would have to go to the local Services Canada office and get it updated there before they can mail it to you.

I didn't make any address changes when I landed, so I expect they will mail it to the address on file if I don't change anything. I'm making a visit to the Services Canada office later today, and will see if I can make the address change while applying for the SIN.

The address that the immigration officer asks for while landing has nothing to do with "address change". PR card is mailed only to a Canadian address. Not sure if its a Canadian address that you have on your file.

I was wondering about these things, too, but can't see KJG's reply for some reason. Can someone tell me what he said?
