So I fulfill all requirements listed at https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadian-citizenship/become-canadian-citizen/eligibility.html

I just became a permanent resident and I don't know why people say we have to wait before we can apply for citizenship of Canada?

I came to Canada in 2015 for education and so far it's been 4 years and a half. Been a taxpayer, know Canada well, can prove advance English and basic French.

So am I eligible to apply for citizenship right away?

Of course not.

When calculating your time in Canada:
  • only the five (5) years immediately before the date of your application are taken into account;
  • each day you were physically present in Canada as an authorized temporary resident or protected person before you became a permanent resident counts as half a day (up to a maximum of 365 days);
  • each day you were physically present in Canada after you became a permanent resident counts as one day;
  • time spent serving a sentence for an offence in Canada (e.g. serving a term of imprisonment, probation and/or parole) cannot be counted towards your physical presence - there are some exceptions.

As mentioned above, you do not meet the 1095 days requirement. Depending on when you received your PR status, this may mean that you are still close to two years from applying for citizenship to comply with this requirement.

So around August/September 2021 before you can apply assuming no days out of Canada between now and then. With the time you already spent you can claim the maximum pre PR credit of one half day for every full day spent physically in Canada add that to the 2 years from now and you will be good to get citizenship sometime in 2022 by time everything processes
