It is just weird, mine is PNP EE but stuck on background check since last 2 months. May be because of dependent are part of my application.
BTW, according to latest timeline now PNP EE is changed from 7 month to 6 month.
my timeline as the same as you, I am single applicant, I believed we are under the same officer.

It is a system date, has nothing to do with your application. Please, ignore things like GU in general too(unless something actually changes within GCKey) - they are meaningless. The system update date has been clarified by IRCC in a tweet too, but somehow the forum keeps making it a real thing. I'm not accosting you, just confused on who keeps peddling this fake info here and how to best deal with it as it gets annoying for applicants who believe in those as a real events and only get disappointed in the longer term.

Thank you for the information. You said it correct its just all the random post where people talk about GU and then within few days/weeks they get some updates which makes people like us believe in it. But I do agree that this might be just coincidence instead of any real meaning.
True! Statistically, our forum's data is very anecdotal. We need at least ~70 people from each cohort batch with same complexity levels to make any correlation

Did you hear back on your application? I am also under the PNP EE AOR July 29. I received the same update you received: "Background changed to in progress, when it was already in progress". I also have a dependent and am worried that this is taking too long.
