My application has been "In Process" since January 20th, 2021.
I have just received a request to get fingerprinted.
I find this rather strange as I have been a Landed Immigrant since 1992 and have kept my status up-to-date and have had several PR Cards issued.
Is this just a luck of the draw and checks are done randomly? I have a rather uncommon name as well so I doubt it could be mistaken identity
I just find it frustrating as this will now add extra time and expense to what has become a rather long-drawn-out process to date.
Thoughts?

Probably just a random check or your name is so common that they need to do a FP check. Just go through with it, you should be happy that you at least got some activity on your file :)

For everyone who’s waiting for their email test invite , check this :
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/check-status.html

This is the latest update on IRCC website, we always try to stay positive , but when we read such news, I really don’t know where, how and when this backlog nightmare will end ; or for how long we can remain optimistic regarding this process
Hi @E10452

This is really cool, we now know were the queue is, so basically it is 2+ years for pre-covid applications,

With the current pace, applications after July/August seems to be taking around 1.5 years (that is if we take out the 6 months where IRCC offices were closed).

I get where you coming from and I am worried too but honestly I do not think all applications are following this trend(or at least I hope). My friend(non urgent application) applied back in May, 2019 and he received his citizenship certificate in Sept, 2020. Also we all have seen that March 2020 candidates receiving test invites already. So really hoping all of us (July applicants) start receiving test invites by May/June and get wrapped up the entire process by Sept/Oct timeline. But yes, just hoping :)

The far more complicated PR application where you have to send x10 more documents from your entire life took around 3-4 months to process.

And Citizen application where they have to check only few documents, taking them over the year to process. The whole citizenship process after you meet all requirements should take 1-2 months and not 1-2 year.

Hi,

Any idea how they are sending the FP request. Is it mandatory to have? Because i was inland applicant for PR and was never asked either during WP as well

I received it via email. I have been a Landed Immigrant and Permanent Resident in Canada for nearly 30 years. I don't have a common name and I was selected for it. Not everyone gets it. It might be a random selection. I just hope it doesn't extend the processing time further than it has already.
