Hello everyone!

Canadian resident and sponsor here who would like to add his US wife to the title of our house. My wife owes money to the US government to which she has been paying it off slowly. Would there be a problem as far as our house is concerned if she were on title? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! 8)

Ask your bank , without a PR she may not be allowed. I asked for my husband to be on the title and they refused until he received his PR.

It may also be a costly transaction. Unless you really need it for something, as soon as she moves in it becomes the 'marital home' anyway.

Thanks for the replies 8) I will wait until she has PR then and see what the bank says and go from there.

I had the same experience (husband is American). I wouldn't bother until she is a PR. I believe this will also create additional US tax complications if you do it now. So make sure you look into the US tax implications as well.
