Hi guys,
So I've moved to Toronto for 6 months with 5 years of work experience but so far my job search (in banking and finance) is going nowhere. I've tried to upgrade my skills by taking online courses and certifications like Canadian Securities Course (CSC), IT skills but missing Canadian experience is the main factor here.
And on top of these, I don't really like the city that much (the weather, public transport system...etc) compared to other cities that I used to live like London.
So I just wonder if any of you had similar experience and what have you done to overcome these setbacks and maintain motivation to keep going with the job search?
Thanks for sharing anyway.

Hey,
My journey so far has been very exciting here in Canada. I landed on 10th Jan and was looking for opportunities as a Food safety and Quality specialist. I had around 20 interviews (7 face to face ) and most of them went well, however couldn't land anything as they wanted some local Canadian experience.
I had done my research and the local standards are pretty much similar to those of international standards.
Yes everywhere I go all they ask is Canadian experience and I am really getting anxious at this point .
I had one positive face to face , waiting for their final decision.

Any suggestions are welcomed

1st Canada securities course is really not worth anything. I know many people do it in high school or during their 1st years of university. Where are you from? what kind of education and experience do you have? Do you have CFA? What made you come to Canada? Have you worked for an employer with a branch in Canada? Do you have any previous colleagues that work in Canada? In terms of the finance/banking sector therehas been a huge influx of finance professionals and Canada has a relatively small banking sector that is trying to get leaner due to things like Finntech. With Brexit, issues in HK and other issues there have been lots of finance people immigrating to Canada as well as Canadians in the finance sector returning home. In addition to the Canadian graduates it is too hard to absorb all these professionals.

You can’t really compare Toronto to London.
