Hi,

I was wondering if someone could help clarify the instructions on the Japan guide for sponsorship. For context, my Japanese wife is the only applicant. The checklist item for photographs states:

14. PHOTOS
Supply nine (9) recent photos for each member of your family and yourself (accompanying and
non-accompanying). Photos submitted must be properly labeled at the back with the applicant's
name, date of birth and signature. Follow the instructions in Appendix B: Photo Specifications.

I have several questions:
1. What does "accompanying and non-accompanying" mean? Does it mean that her parents + siblings must also have photos taken?
2. If so, the instruction states that the "applicant's" information is used. Is her information used on all photos, even the ones of her other family members?
3. In Japan, once married, she is taken off of her family record and a new one was created with her and I on it. Does this have any bearing on whose photos are being taken? Are they of me and her only instead of her and her original family?
4. I've read in other topics here that the applicant info is only written on one photo, however, I do not see this instruction here. Is Japan different in this case or am I missing something?
5. I see that for the medical examination IMM 1017 form there is a photo required. I'm assuming the doctor will tell the applicant before the appointment that a photo will be required? Does that mean 10 photos should be printed in anticipation of the appointment? Are there other procedures that require a photo that the applicant should be ready for?

I appreciate any help. Thanks a lot.

You only need photos of your wife, and any dependent children she has even if the children are not accompanying you. You do NOT need photos of other family like siblings, parents etc since they are not being sponsored.

Yes you need to bring PR pics also to the medical, they usually ask for 3 or 4. You should ask the doctor before you go how many to bring. This should be in addition to the ones asked for in the guide. Some people even mention to include a few MORE photos in your main application that what is requested. I've read a few posts where a visa office has requested an applicant to send additional photos during processing (even though they sent the specific requested amount).

Thanks a lot for the info, it really helps. Do you happen to know the answer to writing the applicant's info on the back of the photos? All the topics I read mention that it should only be written on one photo, but that was backed up by the instructions (unlike this case).

Thanks again.

Well this is from the Japan country instruction guide: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/3913e.pdf

Seems pretty self explanatory, so i would follow the guide here and do them on all photos! Only a few minutes extra work but could prevent problems later if the VO is super picky.
