Question
I am currently in the US and need to enter Canada soon to give the citizenship test. Am I exempt from hotel quarantine if I come via the land border in Niagara? Thanks for the replies!

Not sure why you cannot appear for the test while in US ? Its online now - no ?

Also, people have been using this loophole to skip 3 day hotel quarantine by walking the rainbow bridge at Niagara falls.. there was a CBC article on that yesterday

Yes but IRCC requires you to be in Canada. They don't say why that's just the way it is, unfortunately.

You need to clear criminality before you get invited for a test.. the sooner you provide the FP the better and probably faster you can get invited for test.

Yes, I checked with RCMP and they have already provided the FP tp CIC on April 1,2021.
Thats why I am asking any guess I should hear something from CIC as FP was already provided to them 3 weeks back.

How did you verify RCMP send it to IRCC ?

I sent email to RCMP and they confirmed they sent it to CIC on April 1, 2021.

I received my test invite yesterday but there is no end date mentioned on the invitation letter. It only has a start date though.
Also there is no update on ECAS about the test invite. Is it normal?

Yeah exactly, strange loophole. Anyway I guess I will enter from Niagara then.

With all respect , just drive through the border with your own car please, don’t fly to Buffalo and get taxi/ shuttled through. CBC news is after people who are doing this , the journalists whine on CBC daily hope the government to shut down this so called “loop hole”. Let’s not give them more excuses. In fact I’ll need to drive back to Toronto from LA this summer too.

CBC whines about that daily and I’m fearing that with more and more people walk over /taxi over from Buffalo the government May shutdown this “loop hole “, that will be a sad day for everyone . I personally believe you have much higher chance to get infected in those hotels than at your own home .

They should have mentioned in that the test invite that you have 21 days from the start date to complete the test.
There is no update on ecas like pre-pandemic on test/oath invites.
