I gave IELTS General Training in July 2013 and got 8.0.

How much tougher your guys thing this Academic IELTS will be ?

Also, I have a graduation in Business Studies (Marketing Specialization)
2.5 Years work ex as a Business Manager - Pharmaceutical Firm.
2.5 Years work ex as a Research Associate - Credit Rating & Business Research Firm.

This is my profile.

Ok guys..

these are the courses I have applied for (Jan 2014 intake):

GEORGE BROWN COLLEGE
B406 - Marketing Management - Financial Services Program
12 months (2 semesters of in-class study, 1 co-op work term)

B409 - Strategic Relationship Marketing Program
12 months (2 semesters of in-class study, 1 co-op work term)

CENTENNIAL
2528 - Project Management
12 months (3 Semesters)

2845 - Marketing - Research & Analytics
12 months (2 Semesters)

GEORGIAN
RAPP - Research Analyst
12 months (3 Semesters)

BINT - International Business Management
12 months (3 Semesters)

My consultant told me I should only apply for the courses which compliment my work experience or my educational background, otherwise I could face rejection by the college itself or the VISA office later on. :(
Hence, my choices go really limited. But I really need to get in Jan 2014 intake as after that I will complete 6 years since my last education. So would not qualify for SPP. :( :(

You guys think I should apply for more ???

Hi Dev,

I did not pay any fees for applying to these courses. Only for Georgian, as they do not accept online applications so a physical courier was sent to them by my consultants. Apart from that if you have given IELTS Academic already then ur application fees gets waived off, if not, then it is a nominal 50-100$ per application.

Now for your other question:

What sort of VISA are you looking at ?

For migration your should have applied for the FSW Visa when it opened in May. Im guessing you did not.
Dont know if FSW is gonna open next year or so cant tell u to wait.

Going by your profile I guess it would be better for you to go for a full fledged Masters Degree. Top notch IELTS score, GMAT as well. Otherwise hi probability for getting a rejection in VISA as a small 1 year course wud not really look like a value add to your background. Just my view though.

Senior members here would be a better judge then me of your situation.
All the best though..

Even your profile would have suited the FSW VISA which gives you a direct PR for Canada, I guess.
But for your course, I am a very commerce based guy so not a very viable source for science educations and prospects.

As far as chances for VISA rejections are concerned, they will always be there, no matter how much homework you do, nothing is sure shot. Always remember that.
To ensure and improve your possibilities though, all you can do is:

Make sure the course you choose complements your education or work ex or better still, both...!!! So the VISA people know that you are coming to Canada to develop your profile and not just for the heck of it. They do not want unemployed graduates who give a bad name to their college performance as well.. I hope you catch my drift here.

Apply to as many courses as you see fit your bill. You never know which one will offer you a seat first so you can go ahead with the rest of the process soon.

Push up your IELTS, if you r not naturally good at English, go for coaching, study, prepare, practice, and do whatever it takes. Your IELTS score tells the VISA people how much potential you have for easing up in Canadian society and establish yourself as a professional, so always remember its importance.

Past academic performance - unfortunately what is done is done and you cant do much about that. So if you scored not that well in your past academics, then just pay that much more attention to the above points.

Again, senior members would have a better clue about all this.. ask ahead..
All the best..

Thanks for telling me everything so clearly...actually i wanted to go for PhD but could not go as procedure for applying is very difficult ( u have to arrange for professors and other things before applying). Moreover, indian students are not welcomed for research..so I made up my mind for advance diploma. Following is my profile...cn you suggest me someting acc to that (visa chances etc)

IELTS- Band 8 {L-9 ; R-8.5 ; W-7 ; S-7}
B.Sc- biotechnology-67%
M.Sc Stem cell research (subject of life sciences)-67%
B.ed (most recent)- 74%
Now applying for: advance diploma(fast track) in BIOTECHNOLOGY TECHNOLOGISTin college under spp

Dear All,

I have a few queries about studying and working in Canada, I was wondering if you can all help and advise me.

I am actually planning for a one year diploma course in Human resources from GBC college

QUESTIONS

1. I have read that these courses provides co-op. What exactly is co-op is it like a paid internship kind of a thing or is it a program which helps you land a permanent job

2. Is it possible to work part time while studying, if yes then can I start working right at the beginning of my course or i have to apply for a work permit after 6 months and only then I can work. Also, what's the average hourly pay for part time work

3. What are the job prospects like in HR industry and pay-scale for a permanent job in the aforesaid industry, I will be taking an educational loan and I am very concerned about getting myself in a situation where in I wont be able to pay it off. ( I know a very specific question, please provide a ball park figure)

4. How easy/difficult is it to get a PR in HR field.

Thanks a lot for your help.
