Hello Guys,

I see everyone here are very helpful and i found all information regarding student visa from this forum. But, I have some doubt which i could not able to find. i don't know if there are other cases like me.

Academics:
Msc(IT) - 77% in 2017 year
BCA - 77% in 2014 year
IELTS - target to score more than 6.5
1 year of Experience as a Software Engineer

I have talked with many consultancies and they said to opt for PG course as I have already completed master degree. However, my preference is to study master courses only but they are saying the chances of getting the rejection is high because of Master Degree.

I want your opinion on this topic.

Thanks for your time.

I have also applied for the second master's and waiting for the university's decision. I searched a lot online and some people say that it would decrease the chances of getting a student visa, while others believe that a strong SOP could be useful to get the permit. I am confused

In general, it is harder to satisfy a visa officer for a 2nd bachelors or masters. It doesn't show a clear progression of studies, as they like to write.

If you are confident you can satisfy the visa officer with genuine, concrete, reasons such as benefits to your future and why you decided on a second masters degree then you may have a good chance.

You need to demonstrate that you are a bona-fide student and aren't just going to study in Canada so you can apply for a work permit in 1-2 years.

Thanks for your reply.
I got my bachelor's in civil engineering and master's in transport engineering. During my master's degree, I attended a course-work called GIS (Geographic information system), and I really loved it and decided to become a GIS specialist by studying further. GIS is taught under geomatics engineering and also geography in most of the universities in Canada. Even for PhD in geomatics, they require some prior research experience in geomatics , hence , I cannot apply directly to PhD.
How can I prove that I am a bona-fide student in your opinion ?and do you thank that the above reasons could satisfy the visa officer?

  1. Do you eventually want to go for a PhD? If so, you should mention that and state the masters is a stepping stone. How are the career prospects in your country for a Geomatics Engineer? Research and state them.
  2. After your masters degree, have you worked on any projects in GIS or a closely related area? If so, mention them so you can make a solid link.
  3. Think of this as a sort of a marriage visa. In a marriage visa pictures and letters are very weak evidence but joint accounts that have been there for 1-2 years are strong evidence for a legitimate marriage. So you need to demonstrate you are legitimately in love with the field but flowery language is not enough (that is the same as pictures and letters). You need hard reasons when changing careers: employment prospects in your country, why did you really like GIS etc.
To me your reasons seem legitimate - many people make up their minds to study a subject after they come across a course or a particular project. You just need to explain and demonstrate it with evidence, if you can.
It is possible just difficult and depends on every individuals circumstances

Thanks for your invaluable information.
I would like to go for a PhD once I finish my master's. After attending the GIS class , I joined a workshop regarding GIS and also asked my professor about a GIS book and read it thoroughly. You rightly mentioned about the fact that flowery language should be backed by concrete evidence. This could be the weak link in my case because I do not have a work experience related to GIS as I graduated in October 2017. In your opinion, shall I give it a try ? I have already applied to a university . Thank you

It is difficult for me to say, I am just an applicant like you. Use the search feature to find cases similar to yours and study them.

Do you eventually want to immigrate? With a masters degree and a good IELTS you may have good score for Express Entry.

No, for now ,I have Canada in mind . How about you ? have you considered any other country as your b or c options ?
I have considered other countries but I haven't applied yet. Reason being, I want to apply to Canada for at least 2-3 times as Europe is far more expensive. If Canada doesn't through [God forbid] for some reason, then I'll consider TU Delft at Netherlands.

Yes, Canada's education is cheaper compared with the US and European countries. I am interested to study in an English speaking country. Let's see what happens.
