Hello Everyone,

I hope someone can guide me regarding my situation.

I started working in a NOC B job on July 10, 2024, and I am still employed there. However, I had to take medical unpaid leave in September and October 2025 due to health reasons. I returned to work in November, but my health worsened, and I now need to take the entire month of December off as well. All leaves were approved and communicated with HR.

I have read that if there is a gap in employment, the previous 1 year of work experience may reset and might not count for PR under Express Entry. Is this true? Will my previously worked period still be counted towards my skilled work experience for Express Entry points?

I would really appreciate any clarification or guidance.

Thank you in advance!

Thank you in advance!
You don't count work experience for unpaid leave.

Whether the work needs to be continuous depends on which PR program you apply to. If you are experiencing serious health issues that may also impact passing your medical. For economic immigration programs Canada wants people who are able to work and not become dependent on programs like disability or other social programs and will also not be a burden on the healthcare system.
