Just registered for MyCIC to apply for a visitor extension.
Here's what it says:

Before Enrolling in MyCIC

Before you enrol in MyCIC, you must indicate if you have ever applied for a service (e.g. a study permit or work permit) either by paper or electronically from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).

If you have applied before, then you will have a Client Identification Number (Client ID )also referred to as a Unique Client Identifier Number (UCI). You can find your Client ID on any official document (including a work permit or study permit or official CIC letter) issued by a Citizenship and Immigration Canada office, Case Processing Centre or Canadian visa office outside Canada.

Your Client ID consists of four numbers, a hyphen (-) and four more numbers (example 0000-0000).

If you have never applied before, you will not have a Client ID.

If you have a Client Identification Number (Client ID) and you do not provide it, you will not be able to apply for all available online services.

Do you have a client ID?

Because I have a Client ID on my Visitor Record, I'm using it, but I keep getting this error: "We were not able to identify you using the information you provided. Try entering your information again."

WHAT am I doing wrong?

I quadruple verified my CI/DOB/name/country of birth are correct....Suggestions?

Usually it only works after your file has been looked at or when you get sponsorship approval. Seeing as you just sent it two weeks ago, you probably won't be able to sign in for another two-three months.

There's an option to do it without an UCI, but there's a warning:

Before you enrol in MyCIC, you must indicate if you have ever applied for a service (e.g. a study permit or work permit) either by paper or electronically from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).

If you have applied before, then you will have a Client Identification Number (Client ID )also referred to as a Unique Client Identifier Number (UCI). If you have never applied before, you will not have a Client ID.

If you have a Client Identification Number (Client ID) and you do not provide it, you will not be able to apply for all available online services.

So, wondering if I go ahead and say "no" for a UCI, what that may mean in the future. Will I be able to use ECAS, etc....(groan)?

IDK what to do. Don't want to go to the border and risk not being allowed to stay because we don't have the sponsorship approval and probably won't have it in 6 weeks when my Visitor Record expires.

Why don't you apply for your visitor extension via mail instead of online? That way you are not messing with MyCIC and ecas, and also it will take a little longer to process than the online applications which effectively buys you free time, and during that time your sponsorship approval may come through.
All you need to do it print off the forms and mail them in, instead of submitting online. Easy, and problem solved.
