My parents have already booked for a flight to Canada from Taiwan in a month.

They both had eTA 6 years ago but eTA expired, they are re-applying eTA. My mom received her eTA immediately while my dad's application was delayed and received an email saying he used to have PR and needs to renounce it (which they both did 15 years ago by returning PR cards to the Canadian Embassy).

As the email said create an IRCC account and link eTA application with more requested info, he did as what it says, but the eTA still got rejected.

I have also checked renounce application, but it also asks for information that they have no idea(the day when recevied PR 15 years ago), plus it is required within 10 days in Canadian Embassy located in Phillipines.

How long does it usually take for Canadian Embassy to process renounce application?
Anybody had similar situalation? What should I do? Apprieciate it.

Returning PR cards to the Canadian embassy is not renouncing PR. They have to submit an application to renounce. Can take up to 6 months. They were very lucky to get eTA years ago but the system has finally flagged it. He cannot apply for another eTA until renouncing PR is completed.

Thank you, is mailing the only way to renounce PR? I've researched, don't see anyways to do it online instead.

I have wrote a technical issue regarding to this to IRCC, and they have approved my second attempt to get eTA. Problem solved.

I would still ensure that their PR status has been renounced unless they are sure it was renounced (applied to renounce not just dropped off PR card). Did IRCC confirm they are not a PR. If not they could still encounter problems.

I have also asked that question and waiting for their response, in case applying for eTA has another issue in 5 years when they expired.

The bigger issue would be potential ETA cancellation. I believe ETA data is run through some sort of database/screening in the days before your flight so you don’t want your parents ETA to be cancelled or flagged for a potential issue closer to departure. Believe @Copingwithlife is more knowledgeable about the process
