my friend from canada is sponsoring his wife from pakistan he put his papers in 2012 september. He received his file number from here but now it's gone in pakistan and it's been almost 10 months no reply from their side do u guys know usually how long does that take.

It can take any where between 1 to 2 years for sponsoring a spouse, possibly more if the case is complicated.

Meanwhile, a quicker alternate (which may or may not be accepted) is for the wife to apply for "open work permit" or "temp resident visa" based upon her husband's status in Canada. That is processed much faster.

from pakistan average time is between 16 to 20 months....and one can try for trv ,,,coz open work permit from pakistan is almost imposible..

Well do u have any rough idea that how long will it take them to open her file cause she doesn't even have a file number for Pakistan Islamabad. All that he check with his cic number it just says file has been sent to pakistan Islamabad on September 2012.

they usually open file after 1 year. the average time for wife cases is 14 to 16 months
