hi! im a little confused regarding ielts expiration date.. :(
im applying for an immigrant visa in Canada but I have taken my ielts last 2007.
is there really an expiration of ielts in Canada?
do i need to re-take ielts in order to apply for immigrant visa in Canada?
or is it possible that Canadian officer might consider accepting my ielts even if it's 3years already?
plzzz..... guys i need help... i will really appreciate any help...thank you.

Normally IELTS is valid for two years, but The IELTS result validity period for Canada Immigration is 1 year. So, if you appear today then your test results will be valid up to 15/Aug/2011. As you mentioned you appeared in 2007, so that test score is not valid in any case now.

tnx so much for your repy..
it's highly appreciated.

are you in canada?
what scores each band do i need to have?

Hi,

It really depends how much you want to score from Language Proficiency to get to the pass mark of 67 points. But it is always good to have a High Proficiency in all or most of the bands.

I am in Canada, international student. Following table describes the IELTs points

Reading (GT) Listening Speaking Writing (GT) GT=General Training
Proficiency Level

High (Points 4) 6.5-9 7.5-9 6.5-9 6.5-9
Moderate (Points 2) 5.5-6 5.5-7 5.0-6 5.5-6
Basic (point 1) 4.0-5 4.5-5 3.5-4.5 4.0-5
No (Points 0) <4.0 <4.5 <3.5 <4.0

how you will calculate the points, following is my results
Section Band Points
Reading 9 4
Speaking 9 4
Listening 9 4
Writing 6.5 4 (Don't ask me for this low score, am too bad with spellings)

Total 16

Suppose if my speaking band is 6 then I should get 2 points, as band six falls in Moderate section. With remaining section score stays same the total will be 14 points for first language English.

If you are using english as second official language then for first two rows (High, moderate) you get 2 points for each section if your score fall in that range. For third row range you get 1 point for each section. For forth row range 0 points.

I think it clears up. You can calculate how much you need, remaining senior member Saki explained every thing in above post . Best of luck.
