Is Registry marriage a requirement for spousal sponsorship

Hi. I’m from Nigeria, do I need registry marriage certificate and must it be a federal registry,( ikoyi federal registry or Abuja federal registry or can it be any registry in Nigeria be it state or federal) or we can use nikkah and custom marriage certificate for my spousal sponsorship to join my hubby in Canada?

The rules state that the marriage must be legal in BOTH the country it was performed in AND in Canada. Country specific details are not discussed.
