Is PR equals to express entry?

Hello Everyone,
My wife will be studying in Canada for Post degree diploma next year and I will go with her and I am planning to work there. I have two questions if you may help me about it:
1. How long after our arrival to Canada, we should apply for PR?
2. Applying to PR means express entry application for us? or we should proceed different process?

Thank you.

Best wishes,

Have you assessed your points in the CRS tool ?

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/crs-tool.asp

There is no timeline for when you should apply or not given you either qualify or you do not. However to improve chances getting Canadian experience at least a year full time in a job classified as 0,Aor B should be the aim. What is your current and expected occupation ?

It is impossible to say which immigration program you should apply for as they each have different requirements so start with the CRS tool and come back here with your score and same for your wife to see who could be primary applicant.

Also the various programs are explained here

This was not the correct section to post in by the way, should maybe have posted in the general section or skilled section. This section is for people already permanent residents

Spouses are not guaranteed a visa to accompany their spouse when they are an international student. They have the opportunity to apply and may be accepted.

My current and expected occupation is A class and my score right now 397.
Thank you for your help, I will use general section for further questions.
