Is PhD in Canada from external funding equivalent to full time experience

I did PhD in Canada. PhD students are considered as "Graduate Research assistants" (GRA) (NOC 4012) . So, if the PhD is fully funded from the Canadian university then it is considered as full time work experience ? is it true?

If the same PhD student (GRA) is mainly funded from an external award and partially from Canadian university then can I still claim points for it as full time experience? However, for this PhD (GRA) I had study permit (that allows part time work as well). But when we put any work experience in Canada, there is a question Which of these categories does Jamil Ahmed's job fall under? and it has 3 options (1) No work permit required (2)A work permit without LMIA (3) Work permit with LMIA.

So, for this GRA experience, what option should I select. Can I select option 2 ?
Because when I select option 1, it gives me no points (CRS score) for this experience

It falls under "no work permit required".

But GRA doesn't count as full-time work because you do it while you are a full-time student, which means that you can only work part-time. You would expect one can claim the equal amount of hours (1560) in part-time as equivalent of a year of full-time work experience. But for some reason the online express entry system doesn't recognize work experience in Canada while you are a student. (I don't really know why.)

Because it is explicitly disallowed except for 4012 (at least that was the case until last year) and OP should check that on IRCC website FAQs.

Hi Asivand,

This is the only thing I have been able to find on this: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=855&top=29
And as you can see it suggests that one should be able to count TA or RA work in the FSW stream regardless of whether or not it was done in Canada. Do you remember where you saw it explicitly disallowed?

So what should I do now.

Because, I have recorded this in my EE profile as my 37.5 hours/week GRA work experience for 4 years and 8 months? with "No Work permit required"
I got no points for this, though.

I got ITA on December 22nd...
Whats should I do now... Am I good to go...

Please let me know....

Did you get ITA based on this work experience or another work experience?

My ITA states that I have 53 points for my Canadian experience.
53 points are for my post graduate work experience for 2 years. Therefore, in my ITA and I have no points for my this GRA experience.

Which is how it should be because CWE while being a full time student is explicitly disallowed. So that experience cannot be used to claim eligibility under CEC.

So, am I good or by putting this experience in my EE profile or is it a mistake?

Does removing it make any difference to your CRS? Also, what's your FSW score on a scale of 100? And how many points are you getting for work experience in the FSW scale?

however, my ITA is based on CEC...

In that case, keep it out of the application.

ok. Thanks. Asivad...

I can remove this experience from my PR application. However, it will stay in my EE profile and EE profile can not be changed now. Will that not be a problem due to conflict ?
