The gov't is currently paying my interest as I am under the repayment assistance plan. I still have to pay the principle of the loans, but they are taking care of the interest. Will this affect my sponsorship? I talked to a cic agent and they had no knowledge about anything.

OSAP is not social assistance.
As for the government paying the interest, will you pay them back the interest on a later date when you're able to make bigger payments to reduce the loan?

No I do not have to pay the growing interest. That is the point of the repayment plan. It's valid for every 6 months. You keep applying and get approved if your not making enough income to pay back the principal loan and the added interest.

But the key is I do not receive any money from the government. They are just helping with the student debt reduction while I am working to pay back the debt.

Both the Province of Ontario and the Government of Canada offer repayment assistance that helps borrowers who are having difficulty repaying their loans.

You're still go to go .... Its not the assistance they are looking for . Its social assistant E.G. Welfare
