Hi there,

My wife is a Mexican Citizen. She completed a Doctor in Medicine and a Masters Degree all in Mexico. She got an ECA done and it shows that it is the same equivalency in Canada. For 3 years she worked full-time in NOC 3237 and then for 7 years she worked full-time as in NOC 3111. This is all in the last 10 years. Where can I find out if she is LMIA exempt?

Just want to warn you that there is a high likelihood that she will never be able to practice medicine in Canada. Being LMIA depends on her job in Canada. She would also have to look into NAFTA or whatever the current deal is.

Thanks. Lets just say she was given an LMIA exempt work permit via NAFTA, and then I myself got an LMIA work permit in Canada after, I would be the only one allowed to apply for PR status since in Canada if you are on an LMIA exempt work permit, you have to be working for at least 1 year full time before you can apply correct? Obviously, we will be doing more research into all of this, but I am curious if that is true or not.

Applying for PR depends on your work experience, age and education. It all depends on what program you apply for.

Oh Ok, thanks. I thought if someone was on an LMIA exempt work permit via NAFTA they could not apply for PR status unless that have worked at least 1 year in Canada.

They can certainly apply - but they can't claim any job offer points.
