Hello,

We are in the last stages of common law sponsorship, my partner is in Mexico. I received the message: Your application is in queue and will be processed in the order it is received. We cannot provide you any time frame on this process.
Can a lawyer speed up the process or is it better to just wait it out at this point? Does anyone have any experience with this?

A lawyer is good to help you put together and fill out your application before you send it out. A lawyer is especially useful if you have a complex case (criminal record, been deported from Canada, many questions on your relationship, been denied before, etc). In your case (for an application already being processed), it will not help.

no a lawyer certainly can NOT speed up the process. generally, lawyers are known to mess up processes for many people or give out wrong/misleading information. attorneys are basically glorified paper pushers who "double check" your application and act as a middleman when CIC sends requests/information. they don't actually do anything different than a person going through the process themselves.

yes, the majority of the process is a waiting game. in the dark. and silence.

One lawyer totally messed up sisters application and she got refused, her husband divorced her, beacuse he was fed-up with everything that happend. Lawyer only fills paper thats it nothing else, he can't help you speed up the process. I wouldn't recomened a lawyer, unless you have a complicated case.
