I have a silly, but important question:
Is it possible to start working right after landing, or is it necessary to wait until I receive the PR card to start working ?

Yes can start working after "landing", but most likely you need to get your Social Insurance Number (Card) first at any Service Canada office.

You can't get your SIN from service ontario until you have you PR card in hand or the document stating you are a permanent resident.

Check out this link about what document you need to bring to apply the Social Insurance Number:

http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/sin/apply/proof.shtml

Permanent residents - One of the following:
Permanent Resident Card issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. This is the only acceptable document if your claim was processed in Canada.

Confirmation of Permanent Residence AND visa counterfoil affixed to a foreign passport or a travel document

Record of Landing issued before June 28, 2002.

My husband got his SIN the first business day after he landed... He used the landing paper (not PR card, but his copy of the landing paper they give you with the visa) and his passport with cancelled visa inside... It was no issue... His PR card didn't come for another 7 weeks... He walked out with his SIN number and had the official card within a week...

thanks guys! it's good, 'cause that way I can start planning what I will do after landing... :)
so I guess I'll have to get my SIN card and then I can start looking for a job right after that ! :)

Technically all you need is the paper that they will give you with your SIN number on it, the whole visit took us 10 min with no wait, but some offices are busier and it can take a few hours of waiting... They give you the number on the spot.. So you could be working the same day you land if you're ambitious and land early enough :)
