Hello,

I am from Hong Kong and my girlfriend is Canadian which is citizen. We are planning to get married in the end of 2022 and immigrant to Canada in 2023.
We would use family gathering scheme for application. We would like to ask is it necessary to apply until one year after getting married?

Thanks for your reply.
Because my friend said the immigration officer might want to prevent some people they have fake marriage

The 12 months cohabitation requirement is for common-law applications, if you are getting married before applying, you can apply as spouse as soon as you get your marriage certificate, and to support that you are not in a fake marriage you need to send proof of relationship for those years before the marriage, such as pictures in different times and places, pictures of the wedding, even text messages exchanges between you and your girlfriend, letters from friends attesting that the relationship is real and they have known you as a couple for X amount of time, etc
