As far I know its your file number yes CIC Mississauga issuing file numbers after July 2011. I also emailed my embassy about my file number but no response yet. So I guess the file number which we got in approval letter is our file number.

A file/application number should start with a B or F and be followed by nine digits. What does one or the other look like for you?

mine has started with E.. 8)

Application number and file number really are synonymous: https://services3.cic.gc.ca/ecas/redir.do?app=ecas&lang=en&redir=id_num.

Hmn, so let me get this right.....both file numbers you got were #Fxxxxxxxxx (nine digits), but they differed from each other in what those digits were?

Can you try logging in to e-cas with one and then with the other (use the sponsor's details)? Do you get in with both?

well i am explaining it.... when my sponsor received the approval letter she got the application no F followed by 9 digits. then after few weeks i emailed my VO asking for my file no. then in reply they gave me the file no. it is as same as the application no. starts with F and the same nine digits. my question is it ok that both the no.s are same?

Sorry, from your original posting, which I read too fast, I thought that you were saying the two numbers were NOT the same. Yes, of course it's OK that the two numbers are the same; they should be. You got them twice because CPCM has started to provide the file number when it issues sponsorship approval. Before, one only got it with the AOR from the visa office.
