Is consultation helpful? - 4 / 12 months

Hi Everyone,

I have applied for inland permanent residency through common-law relationship about 4 months ago (June 13). It somewhat bothers me that I have not heard anything from the government ever since AOR1.

I was wondering whether a consultation session with a good attorney can prove helpful at this point. I have heard from some people that you can take copies of your documents submitted to CIC and have them analyzed by an immigration lawyer to tell you whether it makes a good case or not.

On the other hand, I am thinking of waiting till december or january to hear from the government first and then decide what to do.

Any thoughts would be extremely helpful!

Thank you

Ask about your application via webform, call the IRCC call center if you’re in canada and ask about the status of your application. A lawyer can only do little at this point. It’s either your package is getting returned or they forgot to issue an AOR. Honestly, if you have a straightforward case, you won’t need a lawyer.

Are you talking about AOR1? I have that since July 25th.

How do you define a straightforward case?

Your application is then progressing normally. You received your AOR on time and it's been four months since you applied. You can expect a medical request in about two months or so. Consultation would be useless as there's no indication of anything being wrong and your case is so far progressing as expected.

The vast majority of this process is just waiting for months wihtout any updates, it's normal.

My bad. I read it wrong. You’re still within normal processing times. I never heard from the CIC until I was on the 10th month mark. A straightforward case would be a non-complicated one. No red flags or whatsoever.
